Adopt Me!: Petey

LOCATED IN VANCOUVER, BC

1-year-old Petey is fun, affectionate and at 8.5 kg/ 18 lbs, perfectly pick-up-able!

Petey was abandoned on a beach in Mexico. Now that he is safe and cared for, this loving pup wants to be close to his person at all times. Whether it’s cuddling on your lap to watch TV, nestling beside you while you work, or sharing your bed at night, Petey will constantly let you know you’re adored.

Because he is treat-motivated and eager to please, Petey is easy to train. Almost anything is a treat to this boy; he will feel spoiled whether you give him jerky or carrots! Petey is house-trained, walks nicely on a leash, sits for a treat, and sleeps in his crate. He is learning to stay in his crate when his people leave, and that it’s ok to meet new people and dogs when leashed. Petey loves playing with other dogs, even if they are much bigger than he is. He even shares his toys with his doggie friends! Because Petey is social, it is easy to burn off his puppy energy at a dog park.

Petey would love a home with another social dog and if not, playdates with friends and family dogs would be a big plus. He likes cats, but might be too playful to live with an older cat. Petey could live with children who understand to be gentle with smaller dogs.

If you like to meet Petey, please fill out our online application (www.tinyurl.com/AdoptMeNow) and we will plan a date!

Adopt Me!: Milo

I’m Milo, a petite pittie pup! I’m smaller than most pitties (only 44 lbs), but my love is just as big!

I’m looking for a loving and patient furever home of my very own. My people will have to like cuddles because I’m a snuggler! (Foster Mom says I need to be renamed “cupcake” or “lovebug” because I’m so affectionate.) They’ll also need to be a little bit patient with me. You see, I like to make friends, but I’m scared at first. Foster Mom and Dad handled that just right, and gave me space and time to feel safe. I used to hide in the corner, but now I ask for cuddles and bellyrubs, and give thank-you kisses for the attention! I’ve only lived with Foster Mom and Dad for a few weeks, but because they were so patient and gentle, we’re already besties. I promise that if you give me time to adjust, I’ll be a loving fur-baby!

I like going on walks and hikes with my foster family. I have puppy energy, and the trail is a great place to burn it off! I know how to walk on a leash without pulling. I also know that a car ride means something fun is coming, so I’ll jump into the car on my own. I’m even (mostly) potty trained! I love playing with other dogs. I get so excited to make new dog-friends that I do little hops!

I still get scared by quick movements sometimes, especially if they’re behind me. I don’t think I could live with small children – they’re nice and all, but I’d be too scared. I have a dog-sister in my foster home, and I love that! She plays with me, and shows me how good dogs behave. I hope I can have a dog-sibling in my furever home. A cat-sibling would be ok too; they’re not as fun to play with, but I respect them.

Adopt Me!: Rocky

Special foster needed for a special boy! This little man is Rocky. He was bought as a puppy because he’s cute, and he then spent his first two years living outside

Despite Rocky’s rocky start, he’s incredibly sweet, loves to cuddle, and even “purrs” when he’s happy. To feel his best, this adorable boy needs soft palate surgery and to get neutered, so he needs a quiet place to recover, while our rescue organization will be taking care of the surgeries.

We’re looking for a foster with a calm environment, preferably without other dogs, since Rocky gets really excited easily, and we need to avoid that.

Foster to adopt is an option too!

Please help us spread the word to find Rocky a foster to give him a cozy place to heal.

Here is our online application for both foster/adopters:

Adopt Me!: Devlin

Meet Devlin, the persevering pointer pup! This two-year-old boy is loving rescue life, and we love watching him become a healthy, pain-free dog!

Devlin was found as an emaciated stray with broken hips. The veterinary surgeon told us the damage was so bad, Devlin felt like he was walking on shards of glass! But even when he was in constant pain, Devlin approached everyone with gentleness, love, and hope. This special boy kept his positive attitude through surgery and physical therapy, and now gets to romp and play on his strong healthy legs!

Loving Devlin is happiest when he is in bed snuggling his person. (To tell the truth, he’s a bit of a blanket hog.) Second happiest is hanging out with his dog- and cat-siblings. A true pack animal, Devlin wants to be with his human and fur-family at all times. He likes chew toys and naps, and will make you laugh with his silly sleeping poses!

Devlin is sensitive, and responds well to positive feedback and gentle guidance. Because of his physical therapy, he is very used to being handled and responds patiently. Devlin already is crate-trained, and knows to potty outside. He may develop arthritis with age due to his previous injuries. Devlin would love a home with dog- or cat-siblings.

We are happy to share all surgery records and answer all your questions .. Please help us learn more about you and your household by filling out our online application http://www.tinyurl.com/AdoptMeNow

Adopt Me!: Al Capone

Handsome and happy 7+ years old Al is a German Shepherd/ Australian Cattle Dog/ husky mix. Not only does his breed mix make Al handsome (and SO FLUFFY), it also gives him smarts and great focus. He already knows how to walk nicely on a leash, how to “sit” for a treat and offer his paw for a “shake,” and that he should potty outside! Al loves learning new things and is motivated by high-value treats, so is easy and fun to train.

Because Al was mistreated in his life before OPR, he needs a home where all family members have dog experience and are committed to training using only positive methods. Al is shy at first, but loves getting affection from people he trusts. He will ask for pets by putting his chin in your hand, then rolling over for a chest scratch and belly rub! You’ll know you hit Al’s tickle spots just right when he covers his big grin with his paws. The way to this loyal boy’s heart is through his stomach; if you approach him treat-first, he quickly will realize you want to be friends. Once you are in Al’s trust circle, he will let out his goofy side. He loves to roll around on the grass, catch toys in mid-air, and even to roll around while holding his toys! After a particularly satisfying session of catch, Al would like to cuddle up next to you outside, enjoying the breeze and watching the world go by.

A little back story about our boy: Poor Al was abandoned in a park during a July heatwave, tethered to a tree by a prong collar. He was taken from there to an animal shelter where the veterinarians failed to recognize a cancerous lesion. Al sat in a kennel for four months scared and in pain! Finally he was saved by One Planet Rescue. Al ended 2022 with the loss of his leg, but now is in remission. Al had a particularly rough 2022, and hopes that 2023 brings him a quiet, adults-only home where he can recover from beating cancer. FOSTER-to-ADOPT is an option! If you like to learn more about Al and arrange to meet him, please help us learn more about you and your household by filling out our online application: http://www.tinyurl.com/AdoptMeNow

Adopt Me!: Snoopy

Attention all cat lovers, cat enthusiasts, and just about anyone with a heart! Allow me to introduce you to the one and only, the extraordinary, the black-and-white bundle of joy – Snoopy!

He’s cutest three-month-old feline you’ll ever meet. Now, you might think my name suggests I’m a little snoop, but don’t worry, I’m not here to spy on your secrets. I’m here to steal your heart instead!

Let me tell you a bit about my adventurous journey so far. I started life as a tiny, motherless fluffball and had to be hand-raised with lots of love and care. My foster family was simply pawsome – eight dogs and two cats! Can you believe it? I’m practically a cat-dog expert! I even mastered the doggie door, but my foster mom said I had to graduate from the dog academy and move to a cat-exclusive foster home.

In my new foster place, I’ve got a cool sister to play with all day and night. We’re like a dynamic duo, purrfectly synchronized! The other cats might be a bit older, but we still get along like catnip and toys.

Now, here’s a pro-tip for my future hoomans – I LOVE attention! If you’re up for a cuddle marathon, count me in! I’m a pro at finding cozy spots to snuggle, and wherever you go, I’ll follow. I’m a kitty shadow, you see. So, if you need an adorable sidekick to make you feel like a superstar, I’m your guy!

I’m really hoping to find a forever home with loving parents and maybe even a feline sibling who’s up for some action-packed playtime. Trust me, I’ve got energy to spare, and I promise to keep you entertained with my acrobatic jumps and hilarious antics.

Okay, okay, I’ll admit it – I can get a bit meowtional when there’s nobody around me. But hey, who doesn’t need a little extra attention now and then, am I right? And about the middle-of-the-night nose boops – I mean, what’s the fun in sleep if you can’t have a feline alarm clock? Don’t worry; I’ll learn to keep it down… maybe.

So, there you have it, dear potential adopters! If you want a clever, playful, and loving companion who will always keep you smiling, I’m the kitty you’ve been looking for. Don’t let this chance slip through your paws – adopt me, Snoopy, today, and let’s embark on a purrfectly delightful journey together! See you soon!

Adopt Me!: Odie

Obliging Odie is a gentle soul who seeks a similarly gentle fur-ever home. He is so patient that he allows his foster-brother, a chihuahua, to steal Odie’s larger bed!

At 8 or so years old, Odie is past needing constant activity and entertainment. Although he loves cuddles, he is too polite ever to demand attention. Instead, Odie will wait calmly until you have a moment to spare, and be grateful for any time you are able to give. Odie’s foster mom says he is the best dog she’s ever met – including her own! (She is a professional dog-sitter, so that’s saying a lot!)

Odie is quiet, never barking or whining. He walks nicely on leash and is not reactive to aggressive dogs, choosing to turn away from any conflict. Odie enjoys sunbathing and fetch, but his absolute favorite activity is to nap. If you let him nap near you, perhaps on a cushion, he will be perfectly happy.

Odie is deaf and will need a secure yard to prevent mishaps. He could live with older children or other dogs who understand and are patient with his physical limitations.

Adopt Me!: Buddy

Buddy’s name is apt, because he’ll be your BFF!

This gentle giant loves people, other dogs, and is even courteous to cats. Unfailingly polite, Buddy enjoys meeting new friends and will ask for pets after a brief introduction. When bothered by a rude or aggressive dog, Buddy backs away to defuse the situation, and calmly shows that dog how a real gentleman behaves. Buddy is so well-mannered that he rarely even barks!

Always considerate, Buddy will adjust his activity level to your schedule. If you have time for a long sniff-ari or swim, Buddy would love that! But if you need to give him a quick walk or play session before getting back to work, Buddy is equally happy to snooze on the couch next to you for the rest of the day. Your companionship is what matters most.

Smart Buddy already knows how to sit, wait, jump, come when called, touch your hand for a treat, walk nicely on leash, and wait patiently for his dinner. He even knows that he needs to potty outside! Because he is treat-motivated and eager-to-please, Buddy is fun and rewarding to train.

Buddy would do well with an older human sibling; he likes kids, but doesn’t always understand his own size! He also would enjoy a home where he could wrestle with a similarly strong and energetic dog-sibling. Buddy could live with a dog-savvy cat after an introduction.

If you like to arrange a meeting with Buddy, please fill out our online application: http://www.tinyurl.com/AdoptMeNow

Meet Summer!

With most of the animal shelters in California at or beyond capacity, the reality is that often the difference between a dog who makes it out alive and one who doesn’t is a solid foster offer.

Just ask one of our newest rescues: Summer. This sweet girl was picked up as a stray in Stockton, and like so many others, no one came looking for her.

Despite being a shelter favorite, young, healthy, and adorable, Summer was one of the longest-stay residents, and her time was almost up. The shelter even performed surgery on her to fix her entropion (a genetic condition that causes the eyelids to roll inward). She was healing nicely, happy, and sweet, but yet no one came to adopt her. She’d been noticed by one of our repeat adopters who adored her from afar but has a full house that includes two OPR alumni. She made a post for Summer, calling for a foster and hoping someone would fall in love. As fate had it, her neighbor Susan saw Summer’s pictures and offered to foster!

Summer has been at Susan and Andy’s house for a month now, learning how to be a family member. It’s not clear if Summer ever had a loving home, but those days are behind her. We’re so thrilled she gets a chance to know the meaning of love. Stay tuned as we learn more about adorable Summer.

If you’d like to help more deserving dogs like Summer get a chance, fill out a foster application on our site and consider making a donation to our nonprofit. We can’t do what we do without your support!
