Adopt Me!: Sammy

My name is Samann aka Sammy, and I’m up for adoption! I’m from Iran, but now live with my foster mama in upstate NY. Transport is available for me if my furrrrever family is in another state!

Our sweet little kitten Sammy was our first rescue of 2020! This adorable girl was found all alone in a ditch in Tehran, with no mother in sight. Thanks to a caring person who didn’t look away, she was rescued, vetted, and has made the trip to the Bay Area. Sammy is a lover who adores people, gives hugs, and will just melt in your arms. Sammy may be a little shy at first, but she opens up quickly. She is also very playful and active and will play with just about anything. She would do well in a household with other playful cats, but she would also be just fine as an only cat, as long as she has lots of toys to keep her busy. She’s very cuddly once she’s gotten her playful energy out. Sammy is an easy kitten just looking for a safe and loving home where she can be charm her people with her cuteness.

Fosters!!!

None of these beauties would be rescued if families didn’t step up to foster them. Rescue organizations are worthless without foster homes, volunteers & financial supporters. Please consider making a change by opening your hearts and your homes to homeless animals. Together, we CAN make a Difference!

Leo’s story

Leo was rescued from captivity in Tehran’s Shah-Abdul-Azim area. An addict who claimed his ownership had tied up Leo and two larger dogs who often attacked and dominated him. He was given some dried bread every couple of days and mostly was surviving on eating weed and grass. Most of his body especially his ears was covered in Mange. An anonymous person brought him to the shelter seeking cure for his condition but they never returned nor paid for the medical bills. He recovered at the shelter for the most part after six months except for around his ears which healed completely at his foster home later, and soon he was vaccinated, neutered and later we were approached to take Leo on. He arrived in the US via SFO a few days ago. He is settling in well at his foster home in San Jose. At around 2 years of age, he is quite social and gets along with cats and other dogs. He has a healthy appetite and loves to try new stuff. Stay tuned as we learn more about little man Leo!

Chuy the Chow

One Planet Rescue receives emails daily about innocent dogs and cats who end up in shelters awaiting their fate! One of the recent emails we received was about Chuy. Chuy the Chow was surrendered on Jan 17th because of a medical condition on his nose and eyes. He was only given 5 days before being put to sleep. He’s about 5 years old and his medical issue is treatable. They were looking for a 501c3 Rescue to take him on as a kind human and her family had offered to foster him. We are useless without foster homes but with Debra & Jared’s kind offer on the table, how could we say no?! I arranged to meet the family and once we were assured of their commitment, we arranged to go over to the shelter to have their dog meet Chuy. It all went well and we are happy to report Chuy is now home with Debra & pack! Chuy has ulceration and scabbing around his eyes and nose (suspect immune-mediated skin disease such as pephmigus foliaceous), he is an apparent owner surrender due to his health issues. We took him straight to Dr Gonzalez of Kirkwood Animal Hospital for a cytology test and a full blood panel test. They sent us home with some prednisone and 2 kinds of antibiotics. We will keep an eye to see if the medication helps relieve the inflammation and if not, we will schedule a biopsy. We later took him to @petfoodexpress for a good brushing and bath. He settled in his new digs and had a good night’s sleep. Debra and family tell us they already fell in love with little man Chuy! We couldn’t be happier for him. Thank you to every one who helped spread the word about him. Thanks to Armani of @bravedogsadvocacy & Robin of a Southern California based chow rescue for always looking out for the innocent canines on death row.

Alex’s Story

Alex, a sweet 4 year old Shepherd from Iran, arrived at Home For Life Animal Sanctuary on Sunday night November 24, and is resting and getting the care and love he so desperately needs. His story started back in Tehran, earlier this year in the summer. He was found outside a home unable to move. A kind hearted young lady found him and took him to a vet where it was diagnosed that the tendons in his leg were badly injured. He was also severely underweight; weighing about 61lbs, he had arthritis in his hips and needed to be neutered. He was kept in the care of the vet for about 2 weeks and underwent surgery to get neutered. One Planet Rescue got involved and with the volunteer network that has helped with countless other rescues we were able to start the process of bringing Alex to the USA where he could get the help he needed. Home for Life has been a sanctuary for many international cases, many from OPR and they agreed to take Alex in and help him recover and gain strength to live a good life.A traveler was secured, an elderly lady who was travelling to Connecticut, however the unrest in Iran caused a lot of worry and delays. Thankfully Alex was finally able to make the 24 hour flight to New York’s JFK. Then with the help of The Liberty Train and Rescue, another volunteer partner, Alex was transported by car to HFL. He arrived tired and sore from the journey but he is now safe and will be well loved and has the best opportunity at an active life. We are always thankful to all the selfless people who help in saving these voiceless ones.
