Adopt Me!: Poppy

Are you ready to fall in love? Meet Poppy, a sweet, handsome boy who loves to be loved. His energy level is matched by his drive to please. Poppy was rescued from Iran and has been doing wonderfully in his foster home here. He gets along beautifully with all the other pups at his foster home and loves to play. Poppy also loves interacting with humans of all sizes. He even loves to give little kisses to his foster’s 9-month-old granddaughter. He could use some direction on leash, but he’s smart and responsive, so he’s a quick learner.
Poppy is 1.5 yrs old, neutered and more than ready for his forever loving family to take him home. He is currently being fostered in Sunnyvale, California.

Adopt Me!: Loki

ADOPT OR FOSTER TO ADOPT

Sweet, sensitive, energetic, and loving Loki is estimated to be a six-year-old Staffordshire/Lab mix. This adorable guy was brought to our attention by one of the dedicated volunteers of Contra Costa Animal Services. She and other volunteers saw what a great dog he is and were so sad no one would adopt him just because of his skin issues Poor Loki sat in the shelter waiting for an angel to see past his condition for 8 long months. We just had to step up for him! He has been healing in his foster home, steadily gaining weight, and adjusting splendidly to domestic life. If his foster could describe him in two words, they would be “love bug”! His favorite pastime is resting his chin on your arm or leg and looking lovingly into your eyes. To Loki, nothing is better than being with his humans, and he absolutely craves attention and affection. He’s also very food motivated (making training easy) and loves to play with other dogs, large or small. His foster shares, “His intentions are pure and his grace may be missing, but he’s a pure sweetheart. We’d love to see him go to someone local. He’ll always have free baby(dog)sitting with us!”

Welcome, Auggie!

This sweet 7-year-old bear needs our help. We’re lucky to have one of our regular foster angels who stepped up to help take care of Auggie. The Apple Valley shelter, one of the highest kill shelters in California (and the same one that our Butter Bear aka Trucker came from), picked him up as a stray and named him Auggie. Listed as a Chow/Aussie mix, Auggie was very shy in his kennel and had clearly not lived a good life. This shelter doesn’t give dogs very long, and Auggie had started to not feel well, which was another strike against him. He’s got quite a story so far.

The short version: A rescue (Aussie Border Collie Rescue of Northern Nevada) stepped up, he was pulled from the shelter by a wonderful local foster, and when transport plans weren’t convenient enough for this rescue, while Auggie was getting more and more sick, the rescue suggested on *two* separate occasions that the foster take Auggie back to the shelter (!!), which would’ve been a certain death sentence. Despite pleading from the foster, the rescue offered no medical assistance for Auggie and stopped responding.

One Planet Rescue was then approached to take him on, and thanks to Goli, whoo offered to foster him, it was a done deal! He was finally taken to the vet down south and the poor boy has jaundice and pneumonia! Apple Valley Animal Shelter has cited this rescue for abandonment and alerted the shelter in their local area of Minden, NV.

Auggie spent a couple of days at the vet, and fortunately he’s responding really well to the meds and is finally eating (yay!!). His foster down south has been amazing (thank you so much, Dayna!). Thanks to support of the angels who pledged to help, we are able to get the medical care he needs. Auggie will be getting transported up north to Goli’s house once he’s well enough to travel, and she will continue nursing him back to health, physically and emotionally. He’ll be getting a new name too 🙂

Healing this baby may not be cheap but we KNOW it’s totally worth it. Even the hospital staff said Auggie was so sweet and would 🙂

Hana: Adopted!

We’re so glad we took a chance on Hana. We were told she was dealing with cancer. Her medical records showed she was terminal and may be only has a few months before cancer defeats her. Thanks to Filomena Farms, who kindly offered to provide a hospice care for Hana, we arranged to fly her to the US to live the rest of her sweet life in peace filled with love and TLC. We took her in to be seen by the amazing Dr. Gonzalez of Kirkwood Animal Hospital in Campbell, California, and the rest is history! Although the previous vet said the mammary gland was inoperable, Dr G removed the tumor and our baby girl has a long life ahead of her. Of course her new mama will make sure and keep an eye out for any new lumps. Hana moved in to her new home in beautiful Pacifica, California. Stay tuned for more as we receive new updates!

Cheeta and Buddy

Cheeta was found alone and injured on the street in Tehran. The couple who found her noticed her crawling and unable to walk. They took her to the vet clinic where she was diagnosed with hernia requiring surgery and it was also decided the injured front leg be amputated due to a nerve disconnect which may eventually result in deformation of her spinal cord, frequent wounds and other ramifications. They took amazing care of her post-surgery and reached out to OPR to help bring her to the US for a better future.

Buddy, the beautiful Persian cat was neglected his entire short life while living in a dirty balcony with humans who could care less about him. Thanks to an animal lover, residing in the same complex and witnessing his living situation, they insisted that the family give up the cat and eventually they did. He was taken to the vet. He was suffering from a gum infection which was addressed and later he was moved to a boarding place while we looked for a traveler willing to bring both Cheeta and Buddy to the US.

Due to Buddy’s flat nose, the only way we could put him on an airplane was to find someone willing to carry him onboard. Lucky for us, one of our OPR family members, who has adopted a dog from us, kindly offered to accompany the two cats. Buddy got to travel in style inside the cabin with her.

Our beautiful travelers were welcomed to Washington DC last week. Cheeta had a foster to adopt home lined up for her in New Jersey. He was transported there the next morning, while Buddy is staying with a foster to adopt family in Germantown.

Thank you to everyone who took part in their rescue, including their sponsors, and to everyone who helped transport the cats to their foster homes.
